Blackjack is another all time favorite game at the casino's played by those of all ages.  It has fun and excitement and the players joke among themselves as a player takes the card that would have helped them get a 21 and at the same time they wonder how the dealer keeps getting good cards.  But just as quickly the luck turns and it's the dealer who get's the bad cards and everyone wins their bets.

Our dealers are great teachers of the game and will help the beginning player with suggestions on when to take another card and with the options they have such as splitting pairs and doubling down on their bets.

So how is the game of Blackjack played.

Players start the game by placing a bet in the circle in front of them on the felt.  The dealer will give 2 cards to each player face up and 2 cards to themself with 1 face up and 1 face down.  The object of the game is to count the value of the cards and get as close to 21 without going over and still beating the dealers hand.  The cards of Jack, Queen, and King are counted as 10, and the Ace may be counted as a 1 or 11.

If the dealer has an Ace showing they will ask the players if they want insurance.  If the player thinks the dealer will have 21 with the first 2 cards, they place a bet in the insurance box.  If the dealer does end up having 21, they will turn over the cards to show the players, pay the insurance bets at 2 to 1 and collect the losing bets.

Helpful Hint:  Most players do not take insurance.

Helpful Hint:  If the dealer does not turn over the cards with a 21 they gave the players some valuable information.  They don't have 21 and you can still beat the dealers hand.

The dealer will go from left to right asking each player if they want additional cards.  If the player goes over 21 the dealer will collect the losing bets and the players cards.  When all the players are finished taking additional cards the dealer will turn over their cards and take additional cards until they have 17 or higher.

Finally the dealer compares their hand to each players hand.  If the player beats the dealers hand they win the bet and are paid 1 to 1.  If the players hand equals the dealers hand it is a tie, also called a "push" and the player doesn't win or lose the bet.  If the dealers hand is better than the players hand, the player loses the bet.

Natural Blackjack:  This is when the player has an Ace with a 10, Jack, Queen or King on the first 2 cards they are dealt.  If the dealer does not also have a natural blackjack the player automatically wins their bet and is paid 3 to 2.

The players also have options while playing their hand.

Splitting Pairs:  If a player is dealt 2 cards which are the same they may split the cards and play 2 hands.  If the situation looks good to split the cards the player puts an equal bet next to the first one.  The dealer will then split the cards and deal a second card to each of the split cards and the player plays each hand seperately.  There are occasions when a player would want to split pairs and the dealer will give advice to anyone who asks.

Helpful Hint:  It is a good thing to be dealt 2 Aces so that you can split them.

Doubling Down.  If the player thinks it is a good time to double their bet for only one more card, they place an equal bet next to the first one and the dealer will give the player only 1 more card.  There are occasions when a player would want to double down and the dealer will give suggestions.
